I love everything about Jayne Mansfield. I could've been this gal's best friend. Before there was Anna Nicole Smith or Pamela Anderson, Mansfield was a successful actress, sex symbol, the greatest, most shameless fame-whore of all time and the celebrity who invented the "wardrobe malfunction." She appeared in about 2,500 newspaper photographs between 1956 and 1957, making her a "blonde bombshell" second only to Marilyn Monroe. Mansfield was married three times, and is reported to have had several affairs with high-profile men, including the Kennedys.

I am obsessed with Mansfield's expensive yet ridiculous taste, best reflected in her 40-room mansion on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. If I could live in any house in the world, it would probably be this temple to bad taste! The mansion, named the Pink Palace, was painted pink, lit by pink lights, and featured pink shag carpeting covering the entire master bathroom, a pink heart-shaped bathtub and a fountain filled with pink champagne in the living room. There was a pink, heart-shaped swimming pool with "I love you Janie" written in gold tile at the bottom.

After an evening performance in a Biloxi, Mississippi nightclub, Mansfield, her lover/divorce lawyer and their driver, along with three of the actress's children, drove to New Orleans, where Mansfield was to appear on a morning television show. On June 29, 1967 at approximately 02:25, on Highway 90, the car crashed into a tractor-trailer truck. The adults were killed instantly while the children, in the rear, survived with minor injuries. Mansfield was 34 years old.

How do I know all this? In 1991, British new-wave band Siouxsie and the Banshees released Kiss Them for Me, (also the name of a Mansfield movie) a song referring to the star's heart-shaped pool, champagne fountain and grisly death. I discovered this song (with its amazing Bollywood music sample) as a kid and still think it is one of the most amazing of all time! ♥ The Boyfriend
