Shenkar Fashion Show 2013

On July 7th Shenkar College of Engineering and Design held its annual graduates fashion show, displaying the final projects of Israel's most promising design students. Out of 35 graduates, five showed at least one's menswear piece. While thsi year's menswear was extremely rich in technical skill, last year's collections were a bit stringer in terms of overall relevancy, solidity and marketability. The show featured a plethora of digital prints and street influence. In June 2013 Shenkar was ranked 13th of the 50 best fashion design programs in the world by leading blog Fashionista, upping the ante and raising the world's expectations of the material that the institutions graduates put out. Perhaps the most impressive men's collection was that of Idan Lederman, featuring intricate, original leatherwork both on garments and accessories.

The star of the show as far as menswear was concerned was this oversized hoodie/jacket by Maya Leibovitz, made of suede, PVC, jersey and an amazingly intricately beaded hood, combining eskimo, indian and urban hip hop elements. Absolutely stunning!

Yaara Ashkar's collection was a sight for sore Israeli eyes, a romantic, urban, neo-goth serenade, a style which one does not see too often in Tel Aviv.
