This year was a year of first collections, the most anticipated of which were Raf Simons at Dior and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent. For spring/summer 2013 Israeli design icon Yosef released his first men's runway show. The "high-casual" collection was titled Blue Suede Shoes and took its inspiration from rockabilly music and American music of the 1950s in general. Let me start off by saying that Boyfriend is always happy to see more quality menswear in the Israeli market, and is thrilled that such a well-known and respected designer is taking the initiative. Let's hope the momentum continues. The collection's highlight were its kaleidoscope prints, which have always been a strength for Yosef. It included jersey, wool, crepe and silk fabrics with silkscreen, handmade one-piece and digital prints. Unfortunately, I didn't understand a lot of the pieces in the collection, which neither seemed very cohesive nor reminded me of rock & roll and the 1950s. Aren't maharajah-collar jackets associated with the Beatles in the 1960s?! It also included accessories made by other designers (shoes by Dr. Martens and sunglasses by Mykita + Romain Kremer) which, for me, heavily reduces the strength/professionalism of a runway show and raises questions of sponsorship. That being said, I am a BIG fan of Yosef's womenswear, which is some of the best in Israel, and am sure that with time, he will find his menswear voice and the line will come into its own. ♥ The Boyfriend

השנה הזאת היתה שנה של קולקציות ביכורים, כשאלה שלהן הכי ציפינו היו של ראף סימונס אצל דיור ושל הדי סלימאן אצל סן לורן. לאביב/קיץ 2013 המעצב הישראלי הידוע יוסף השיק קולקציית גברים ראשונה. הקולקציה ה"high casual" שנקראה "Blue Suede Shoes" (על שם השיר של קארל פרקינז) שאבה השראה ממוסיקת רוק אנד רול אמריקאית משנות ה50 בכלל וממוסיקת "רוקבילי" בפרט. בואו נתחיל מזה שהבויפרנד תמיד שמח לראות יותר בגדי גברים איכותיים בשוק הישראלי, ומתרגש מהעובדה שמעצב כזה מכובד לוקח יוזמה. אני מקווה שהמומנטום יימשך. גולת הכותרת של הקולקציה היו הדפסי הקליידוסקופ, שהם תמיד נקודה חזקה אצל יוסף. הקולקציה כללה בדי ג'רסי, צמר, קרפ ומשי עם הדפסי רשת בשכבות, הדפסי one piece ידניים והדפסים דיגיטליים. למרבה הצער, אני לא כ"כ הבנתי הרבה מהפריטים בקולקציה, שלא נראתה מאוד מגובשת ולא הזכירה לי לא רוק אנד רול ולא את שנות ה50. מעילי צווארון-מהרג'ה הם לא קשורים לביטלס בשנות ה60? הופיעו גם אקססוריז של מעצבים אחרים (נעליים של דר. מרטנס ומשקפי שמש של מייקיטה + רומן קרמר) מה שבעיניי מאד פוגע בכח/מקצועיות של תצוגות מסלול ומעלה שאלות לא נעימות של סבסוד. עם זאת, אני מעריץ גדול של בגדי הנשים של יוסף, שהם מהטובים בישראל, ואני בטוח שעם הזמן, הוא ימצא את השפה הגברית שלו והליין יקבל יותר צורה. ♥ הבויפרנד
