London Men's Fall/Winter 2014/2015: Bobby Abley

Bobby Abley presented his fall/winter 2014/15 men's collection in the framework of MEN, a fashion week initiative sponsored by TOPMAN to support emerging British designers. After working for labels like Jeremy Scott and Alexander McQueen, and making waves with his first presentation last year, Abley's current collection announces his arrival on the London scene with a scream. Abley's sportswear, using rich fabrics, mixed textures, and the raglan-sleeve hockey jersey so popular these days (Givenchy, Shaun Samson, etc) takes on a fantastical and disturbing aspect with his totally-original cultural and pop references. Distorted Disney imagery is combined with torture-device-like mouth gear and Abley's signature teddy bear references, also his label's logo. The combination of strong cuts and masculine styling, alongside cartoon ghost inspirations, make for a uniquely intelligent, amusing and distinctive approach to men's street wear, which has always been what London does best. The Boyfriend expects to see many great things from this promising designer. (Boyfriend loves the hat reminiscent of our favorite Disney villain, Malificent.) It's also important to note that this show was styled by one of London's true menswear geniuses, Ben Schofield♥ The Boyfriend
